Phase One of the MRT Putrajaya Line, the second line of the Klang Valley MRT network, was opened to the public on 16 June 2022.
The new section of the line stretches for 17.5km from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu. The line, with 12 stations, provides much needed rail transit to densely populated areas like Sungai Buloh, Damansara Damai and Sri Damansara in Petaling Jaya, as well as Kepong, Jinjang and Kampung Batu, in Kuala Lumpur.
Three of the stations which were originally part of the MRT Kajang line, namely Sungai Buloh, Kampung Selamat and Kwasa Damansara have been migrated to the MRT Putrajaya line.
The line was officially opened by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during a ceremony held at the Kampung Batu MRT Station in the morning.
In his speech during the event, he announced that people would enjoy free rides on all public transport services by RapidKL, for a whole month beginning from the opening date.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of Finance YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Transport YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed and Minister of Federal Territories YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Shahidan Kassim.
Concurrently with the opening of the rail line, 13 new feeder bus routes were introduced. Kampung Batu MRT Station is also served by the free Go-KL (Maroon line) bus service.
MRT Putrajaya Line Phase One is connected to the MRT Kajang Line at Kwasa Damansara, where passengers can transfer seamlessly across the platform. There are also interchange stations with KTM services at Sungai Buloh, Sri Damansara Timur (with Kepong Sentral KTM Station) and Kampung Batu.
