MRT Corp recently celebrated World Quality Day 2022 on 10 November 2022 at the KVMRT Training Centre in Sungai Buloh, in its fourth year since its inception. The event was organised to encourage employees involved in the delivery of the Klang Valley MRT Project and the RTS Link Project to participate in quality programs, and to enhance the implementation of good quality practice in project construction.

The Quality Day celebration was MRT Corp’s contribution in response to the Chartered Quality Institute’s annual celebration of World Quality Day, with the theme this year, “Quality Conscience, Do the Right Thing”.

The event was officiated by the Guest of Honour, YBrs. Sr. Mohd Zaid Zakaria, CIDB Malaysia Deputy Chief Executive II with MRT Corp Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim in attendance.

Sr. Mohd Zaid, accompanied by Datuk Mohd Zarif also presented the Project Quality Practice certificates to recipients representing 21 Work Package Contractors (WPCs) and subcontractors, who were accorded such recognition due to the work that they have delivered for the MRT Putrajaya Line Project.

A series of presentations have been organised for the day, beginning with Mr. Bassam Mansour, Systems Director at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), with his presentation titled “Quality Assurance in the Railway Industry: Its importance, current trends and why it matters?”

The second speaker was Ir. Dr. Haji Ahmad Shukri Abd Rashid from the Public Works Department who delivered a presentation titled “Maintaining Quality Performance”. Ir. Dr. Haji Ahmad Shukri was once attached to the MRT Kajang Line Project, where he was involved in the underground works.

The final presentation was  by Professor Dato’ Dr. Khairanum Subari, the Deputy President at Universiti Kuala Lumpur with 34 years of experience in Quality Engineering under her belt, with her presentation titled “Quality Conscious vs Conscience, what is the difference?”.

The prize giving ceremony for the Quality Awareness Vide Competition was also held. Leading up to the Quality Day celebration, the competition was conducted prior to the event day. It was opened to all employees involved in the Klang Valley MRT Project and the RTS Link Project, organised to encourage and promote quality within the organisation. A total of 15 submissions was received, and during the event the five finalists presented their video vying for the grand prize.

A panel of 4 judges from reputable organisations assessed and judged the finalists. However, the final score for the presenters do not rest on the judges solely. At the end of the five presentations, participants in the Quality Day event were invited to vote via online, contributing  60% of the score with the remaining 40% by the panel of judges.
