IN efforts of moving forward to help increase the convenience of commuters using the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), members from the People with Disabilities Council visited the MRT Sungai Buloh- Kajang Line (SBK) Line on 6 October 2017.
The aim for the visit was for them to test out strap belts that will be installed for individuals on wheel chairs for the SBK Line trains.
Siemens Malaysia Sdn Bhd (SIEMENS), that was awarded as the contractor for delivering the MRT trains had representatives who joined the visit. Prasarana Malaysia Berhad representatives were also present as the operator of the SBK Line.
Led by International Islamic University Malaysia Disability Unit Head Dr Ruzita Mohd Amin, four wheel-chaired individuals constantly gave feedback about the strap belts.
The delegation experienced a train ride from Kwasa Sentral Station to Taman Suntex Station, giving them ample of time to give their feedback.
SIEMENS Metro Klang Valley Project Director Mr Patrick Hohenberger explained to the delegates that there will be six strap belts installed in all trains. Two sets of strap belts will be installed in the front and back car trains whereas the other two middle car trains will have one set of strap belts accordingly.
Valuable feedback was obtained by all parties involved and the necessary measures to be taken for the future was duly noted.
Lunch was served back at the Kwasa Sentral Station for all to end the visit.
