A BRIEFING session for the media regarding the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line was conducted at the MRT Information Centre, Seri Kembangan on 4 July 2016.
The briefing was particularly regarding the Serdang and Seri Kembangan area, with the presence of Member of Parliament for Serdang, YB Dr Ong Kian Ming for the day.
Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) Strategic Communications & Stakeholder Relations Director, Dato’ Najmuddin Abdullah opened the briefing session by welcoming YB Ong and the journalists from various media outlets.
He then explained the overall project status. The different measures taken for the SSP Line to obtain approval from the government such as the Detailed Environment Impact Assessment was mentioned.
The MRT Project will play a pivotal role in that it will help minimise traffic congestion in the highly congested Serdang and Seri Kembangan area. The number of cars on the roads will decrease immensely with the MRT Project.
Najmuddin also explained that there will be a train depot in Serdang to be built. This depot will be slightly smaller than the one in Sungai Buloh and Kajang. The Serdang depot will provide light maintenance of MRT trains and enable operations from the southern alignment of the SSP Line to begin.
Before ending his speech, Najmuddin pointed out that there are three MRT Touchpoints for the public to find out information about the MRT SSP Line. The MRT Information Centre, MRT Kiosk and MRT Truck are established to act as channels for members of the public to get information about the MRT Project.
YB Ong then took over the floor from Najmuddin and he reiterated the positive impact that the MRT Project will have towards Serdang residents. From personal experience, he also noted to Najmuddin and the media that the feeder bus services will be of high importance. Stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback for this system to run as smoothly as possible.
The session ended with a question and answer session for Najmuddin, YB Ong and MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP SSP) Sdn Bhd Deputy Project Director MRT SSP Line Encik Maslan Othman.
