SURAU As-Salam in Kampung Selamat, Sungai Buloh, got a face-lift when staff from MRT Corp, MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn Bhd (MMC Gamuda) and Syarikat Muhibah Perniagaan dan Pembinaan Sdn Bhd (SMPP) as well as its subcontractors, spent the morning of 14 June 2014 repainting the building.
The event was the second activity to be held under the MRT Corp Employee Volunteer Programme (EVP).
Kampung Selamat is located opposite Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh adjacent to the MRT works in Package V1, which is being constructed by SMPP.
About 60 people participated in the event, including the residents of Kampung Selamat.
SMPP’s sub-contractors represented at the event were Trans Resources Corporation Sdn Bhd, which is building the MRT stations in Package V1, and VSL Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd, the operator of the launch gantries in the work package.
The event began with a message by the MRT Corp Director of Strategic Communications and Public Relations Encik Amir Mahmood Razak, followed by a welcome message by the Head of Kampung Selamat Residents Association Tuan Haji Halid Samijo.
Preparation work for the painting had in fact been done one day earlier when SMPP workers cleaned the walls of the surau, while on the day of the event, painting of the surau was carried out. The event started at 8.00am and ended at about 1.00pm.
Besides painting the surau, MRT Corp also constributed RM2,000 for the surau’s preparation for the holy month of Ramadhan.
MRT Corp set up the EVP to allow the staff of MRT Corp, its partners and contractors, to give back something to communities along the alignment of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line.
