Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) presented a train model to SJK (C) Jalan Davidson on 7 July 2014 as part of efforts to promote the MRT Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line.
The train model was the second to be presented to a school which is located along the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line. The first was presented to SRK and SMK Convent Kajang on 3 July 2014.
The train model which was presented was that of the “Diamond Express” design, one of three that was proposed to MRT Corp by the work package contractor for electric trains, Siemens AG of Germany. The other two designs were the “Guiding Light” and “Hibiscus Star”.
The “Guiding Light” was ultimately selected as the design for the 58 trains which will operate on the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line.
The train model measures 3.4m and will be displayed at a special corner which is called the “MRT Corner” near the school hall.
Around 1,700 students participated in the event which was held in the school hall.
The students were elated that their school was being presented with the train model and greeted the MRT Corp team warmly.
SJK (C) Jalan Davidson headmaster Mr Pang Chong Leong started the ball rolling with a welcome note. This was followed by a speech by MRT Corp Director of Strategic Communications and Public Relations, Encik Amir Mahmood Razak.
Amir then gave a presentation about the train.
In conjunction with the event, MRT Corp parked its Mobile Information Truck (MIT) at the school compound for a week.
The MIT gave students and teachers easy access to information about the MRT Project. The MIT also had games such as Snake and Ladder, Spin and Win and MRT Trivia for the students to play.
MRT Corp’s school engagement programme aims to establish better ties with schools which may face some impact during construction work. The programme also aims to create awareness among students as they will be future users of the MRT.
