VOLUNTEERS from Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd’s (MRT Corp) Employee Volunteer Programme (EVP) did it again when they gave the Taman Shahjaya Community Hall in Cheras a brand new coat of paint on 21 June 2014.
Around 70 participants took part in the event. Besides the staff of MRT Corp and their family members and friends, the volunteers also came from MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn Bhd and V6 Work Package Contractor Ahmad Zaki Sdn Bhd. Many residents of Taman Shahjaya also participated.
Taman Shahjaya community hall is located near the future Bandar Tun Hussein Onn MRT Station. The MRT elevated guideway runs next to the hall.
The event kicked off at 8.00am with MRT Corp’s Chief Executive Officer Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid giving his opening speech. This was then followed by a welcome note from Tuan Haji Zulkifli Haji Abd Ghaffar, Chairman of Taman Shahjaya Residents Association.
The community hall is frequently used by the residents of Taman Shahjaya for various activities. During the holy month of Ramadhan, the hall is used for Terawih Prayers.
At the end of the event, Tuan Haji Zulkifli expressed his gratitude on the work put in by the volunteers. He hoped that the good relationship between MRT Corp and the residents of Taman Shahjaya would continue after the event.
A contribution of RM 1,000 was presented to the community. MRT Corp will also donated 100 prayer mats which will be used during Ramadhan.
The EVP is an on-going effort by MRT Corp to enable its employees and all others involved in the MRT Project to give back to the communities who lives along the Sungai Buloh-Kajang alignment.
