AS the Government agency responsible for ensuring capabilities of Bumiputera entrepreneurs to be enhanced from time to time, the Ministry of Works (MOW), through the Bahagian Pembangunan Kontraktor dan Usahawan (BPKU) in collaboration with the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB), took the initiative to organise the Simposium Kontraktor Dan Usahawan Bahan Binaan Bumiputera 2015.
The symposium was held on 3-4 November 2015 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre.
The ultimate goal of this symposium is to produce more contractors and construction materials by Bumiputera entrepreneurs. It also encourages them to be more competitive and be recognised internationally.
This is consistent with the thrust of the 4th Program Pemerkasaan Ekonomi Bumiputera (PEB) that is to intensify the Bumiputera business and entrepreneurship.
The PEB is a National Agenda and was launched by the Prime Minister in September 2013.
MRT Corp participated in the symposium as part of a government entity that gives employability opportunities to Bumiputera entrepreneurs and organisations.
Encik Zarif Zainul, MRT Corp Deputy General Manager, Bumiputera Relations, gave a presentation on the opportunities for contracts that are allocated to Bumiputera contractors which will be made available by MRT Corp via the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line (SSP Line) project.
A brief overview of the project plans was laid upon to the audience and the expectations from potential Bumiputera contractors were also mentioned.
The job packages allocation were shared with revelation of the exact figures and payout amount for each of the packages.
