On 27 March 2019, Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) awarded its Work Package Contractors (WPCs) and consultants who have performed exceptionally well according to the Building Information Modelling (BIM) Level 2 assessment workflow.

The award aims to encourage the project teams, and also the industry in general to adopt a more collaborative design and construction process. By leveraging on the BIM technologies and Virtual Design and Construction processes, project goals can be met with enhanced productivity.

MRT Corp’s Digital Engineering and Design Coordination team under the Planning and Design Department have formed a thorough assessment based on the comprehensive criteria for the winner selection.

MRT Corp Director of Planning and Design Er Poh Seng Tiok presented the award to the winners during the Digital & Automated Construction Conference and MRT Corp BIM Day 2019 event held at Sunway Putra Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The BIM workflow has been successfully established and implemented in the project execution for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line, where the use of BIM workflow has been mandated throughout the design, construction and operational stages of the project to fully utilise the potential for significant cost savings.

The implementation of BIM for the SSP Line was widely recognised, where MRT Corp became the first infrastructure developer in Asia to achieve accreditation for its adoption of BIM Level 2, accredited by Lloyd’s Register.
