THE Memacu Agenda Bumiputera 2017 Exhibition was recently held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 18 April 2017 – 19 April 2017 and Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) participated in this exhibition as part of the Bumiputera Agenda that the organisation partakes in.
During this exhibition, the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Roadmap 2.0 was unveiled by Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak.
This roadmap is a strategic dimension programme for Bumiputera companies and individuals in the quest to strengthen economic participation of the community. Importance of this is as currently, 68.6% of individuals in Malaysia comprise of Bumiputeras.
In his speech prior to the launch, Najib highlighted the “Carve Out & Compete” initiative in which at least 40% to 50% of contract values, vendors or business opportunities in mega-projects would be given to Bumiputera companies.
MRT Corp had been identified as a successful project in that 51% of work package contracts for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line were awarded to Bumiputera contractors. Besides that, the organisation has set a great example in awarding 50% of retail space at SBK Line stations to nine Bumiputera companies.
MRT Corp also placed an Information Truck that was strategically located inside the exhibition hall for visitors to know more about the project and also the Bumiputera participation. MRT Corp Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Shahril Mokhtar and Chief Financial Officer Dato’ Mohd Hairul Abdul Hamid paid a visit to the truck and was warmly greeted by individuals from the MRT Young Entrepreneurs Programme II who was in attendance.
