NINE members of The Association of Certificated Master Craftsmen and Constructors in Hafnarfjordur, Iceland (MIH) visited Bandar Malaysia Utara MRT Station construction site on 30 January 2020.
Their visit to Malaysia was facilitated by the Master Builder Association Malaysia (MBAM) with the objective of acquiring knowledge on the construction practices.
The delegation consisted of the chairman, vice-chairman, cashier and board members of MIH, who were company owners as well as having Master Tinsmith, Master House Builders, Master House Carpenters and Master Plumber as their professions.
The programme began at the Bandar Malaysia MRT Information Centre, with a welcome remark by Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) Underground Tunnel Senior Project Manager, Mr. Yau Kong Fuat followed by his presentation on the overview of the MRT Project MRT Sungai Buloh – Serdang – Putrajaya Line. Mr. Yau also covered tunnels, construction methodology, geology and site establishment, as well as types of Tunnel Boring Machine used, the risk and challenges and protection of structures and properties.
Before the participants proceeded to the viewing platform to have a closer view of the tunneling works at the site, a safety briefing was given by MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd Assistant Safety Manager, Encik Norazhar Abdul Rahman.
The visit ended with a group photo of MIH with the MRT Corp officials involved.
