THE SERDANG Centralised Labour Quarters (CLQ) was officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Human Resources, Dato’ Haji Mahfuz Omar on 6 February 2020.
With a maximum occupancy of 4,200 pax, the Serdang CLQ will house workers under the southern elevated package for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line Project.
Director General of Human Resource Department, Dato’ Mohd Jeffrey Joakim, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Executive Director Encik Ayop Salleh, Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) Board Member, Encik Ahmad Zubir Zahid and MRT Corp Chief Executive Officer Encik Abdul Yazid Kassim, were also present at the ceremony.
Dato’ Haji Mahfuz congratulated MRT Corp for providing comfortable and safe accommodation for the workers of the Project, and commended MRT Corp for setting the benchmark and had become the catalyst in getting companies in improving the accommodation provided for staff and workers.
He was then taken for a tour around the CLQ to view the facilities and amenities, and later participated in a tree-planting activity, which was part of the landscaping works for the CLQ.
For compliance with the Malaysian Standard on Temporary Construction Site Workers Amenities and Accommodation – Code of Practice (MS2593:2015), Dato’ Mohd Jeffrey presented MRT Corp with a Certificate of Compliance during the event, which was received by Encik Abdul Yazid.
In total, there are 11 CLQs established under the SSP Line with a total capacity of 7350 pax. Seven are located in Serdang, three in Sungai Buloh and one in Cochrane, Kuala Lumpur. The CLQs provide workers with comfortable and convenient housing, which helps to ensure their safety and minimise social issues.
