AN information sharing session about the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line trains was given to 15 students and two lecturers from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) at the MRT Information Centre, Seri Kembangan on 16 November 2018.
These students are second year students in the Faculty of Engineering Technology.
Three individuals from Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) Electrical and Mechanical Systems MRT SSP Line Department talked about the different scope of works that goes into train systems for the MRT SSP Line.
MRT Corp Project Manager I, Encik Azlan Mahmud, presented about the different companies that are involved in the engineering of the trains. Here, he explained that there are specifically 7 system package works that were awarded to both local and international companies for various scope of works for the Project. Amongst them is HAP Consortium, a consortium consisting of three companies to supply and build the rolling stock for the SSP Line.
Azlan also showcased the concept of the interior designs of the trains and highlighted that it is similar to the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) but with a slight difference. Colours of train seats for individuals with special needs are now vibrant as it will be easy for the general public to distinguish them.
Senior Project Manager II, Ir Nor Effendi Yusof, then explained the technical specifications of the MRT trains. Similar to the MRT SBK Line, the maximum speed service for the trains is at 100km/h. This will enable the headway during peak hours to be at 3.5 minutes. 49 train sets will be supplied by the rolling stock contractor with two trains being completely manufactured in Korea, whereas the remaining 47 trains will be completed in the train manufacturing plant in Rasa, Selangor.
The final talk was given by Project Engineer, Encik Roy Ferdinand Bumphray, who discussed the Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) which is an initiative by the Government of Malaysia to ensure best value for money on a procurement programme. Various different companies and local individual talent develop their skills and transfer the knowledge learnt from abroad, back to Malaysia to help construct and build the various parts of construction, related to the MRT SSP Line.
