THE Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak visited the MRT Sungai Buloh depot on Wednesday, 11 November 2015. This is his first visit having previously made three visits to various MRT stations.
This visit demonstrated his commitment towards ensuring that the Project is at the desired progress, enabling it to be fully operational by July 2017.
The Prime Minister arrived at the Sungai Buloh train depot at 5.25pm and was greeted by MRT Corp Chairman Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and MRT Corp CEO Dato’ Sri Shahril Mokhtar.
During the visit, Najib was taken to the train stock maintenance workshop and was shown MRT trains that were being tested.
MRT Corp Project Director for the Sungai Buloh –Kajang (SBK) Line, Mr Marcus Karakashian led the Prime Minister onto one of the trains that was undergoing final preparations of works. Here, the media present managed to take the opportunity to snap photos of the Prime Minister and his entourage.
Mr Karakashian explained to the Prime Minister that at the moment, nineteen trains have been fully assembled and delivered to the depot.
Najib was impressed with the progress of the trains. “What we have planned all this while is materialising, which means our target for the first MRT line to begin operating at the end of next year can be achieved,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that the Project had created jobs for the local community and technology transfer to local companies.
“We see a lot of employment and opportunities for our people who have the qualification. Being involved in the development of the MRT should be valuable experience for them.”
At the end of the visit, the Prime Minister received a memento to mark his visit to the Sungai Buloh Depot.
