TWELVE individuals from Korea Rail Road Corporation (KORAIL), South Korea visited the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Project on 18 May 2017.
With the aim of investigating and learning about the railway industry in Malaysia, KORAIL’s goal is to bid for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (MyHSR) Project.
Hence, prior to visiting our project, they had also visited Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd.
They started the visit with a trip to the MRT Administration Building located in the Sungai Buloh MRT Train Depot.
Here, they were brought to the observatory gallery of the MRT Operations Control Centre (OCC).
MRT Corp Electrical and Mechanical Systems Director Mr Tarenjit Singh Khella then explained the roles that MRT Corp and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad play in the project. He was aided by Mrs Quein Nam who had assisted in translating the information from English to Korean.
Tarenjit also mentioned about the features of the OCC and disclosed that the information displayed on the screen showed the live tracking of each of the trains that were currently deployed on the tracks.
Upon completion of the OCC visit, the visitors were given a special feeder bus ride to the Sungai Buloh MRT Station.
MRT Corp Elevated Construction Project Manager I Encik Asnan Ayob received and led them on a tour of the station before proceeding to board the train to Pusat Bandar Damansara Station.
Further explanation about the features of the trains and tracks were given by Asnan such as the noise barriers, which were of high interest to the visitors.
This is because in South Korea, trains were not built on elevated sections as residents would complain that it will not only contribute to noise pollution, but also block views from their homes.
It was a fruitful visit for the South Korean visitors which they enjoyed thoroughly.
