A Virtual Risk Management Forum was organised on 3 December 2020 for Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) employees with the objective of inculcating risk culture and awareness among the employees.
This was the second year the forum is organised, albeit via the online Zoom meeting app this year on account of the current pandemic, organised by the Risk Management Department. The event was also the first ever virtual forum organised by MRT Corp, with 124 number of attendees.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the forum was aptly themed “Sustainability During the Pandemic”, with experienced professionals in Risk Management from three industry-leading organisations participating virtually this year.
The forum began with the opening remarks by MRT Corp Director of Standard and Compliance, Tuan Haji Mohd Yusof Kasiron, where he hoped that the knowledge gained from the forum will be useful and shared with the rest of the employees. Shortly after, the speakers began sharing their presentations, with a Q&A session after each slot.
The first speaker of the day, who had 24 years of experience with Telekom Malaysia under his belt, was Encik Mohamad bin Mohamad Zain with the topic “TM Sustainability Journey”. In his presentation, the Chief Risk Officer of Telekom Malaysia shared with the audience on TM’s approach as Malaysia’s Convergence Champion ability to contribute to the Sustainable Development. He also shared the sustainability impact to our ecosystem as well as the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the current sustainability issues.
After a 10-minute power break, the forum continued with the second speaker, Puan Hajah Noranisah binti Haji Mohd Anis, with a career spanning over 23 years in Risk Management, Auditing and Business Continuity. The Chief Risk Integrity and Governance Officer of SP Setia delivered her presentation on the topic “Enterprise Risk Management: Value Adding Tool to Embrace the New Norm”, where she shared the key mitigation strategies to ensure business sustainability. She also discussed the approaches of Enterprise Risk Management in SP Setia as well as the key enablers to a successful Enterprise Risk Management.
A Fun Quiz was added to the program to encourage participation and interaction with the participants via an online quiz. The 10 fastest participants to answer all 10 questions correctly each won a RM 50 cash voucher.
The final speaker for the day, who has spent most of his career in Risk Management with global banking groups in Malaysia for their consumer portfolio, then delivered his presentation on the topic “Managing Risk in an Unsustainable World”. The Chief Risk and Governance Officer of FGV Holdings, Encik Wan Norman Nasir discussed on how to manage risks during the pandemic. He also shared the sustainability initiatives and challenges faced mainly in the supply chain.
The Virtual Risk Management Forum 2020 ended smoothly and successfully, with a group photo of the speakers with Tuan Haji Mohd Yusof Kasiron.
