THE Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Project emerged victorious in the KL Mayor Universal Access Awards, organised by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), winning in the Transportation Hub category.
The award, which recognises development that takes into account the barrier-free concept from stages of design until the construction and maintenance method, was presented during the Malam Apresiasi Rekabentuk Kuala Lumpur 2018 at Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur held on 4 December 2018.
This feat was achieved by Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) after inspections to facilities for People With Disabilities was previously conducted by DBKL at the Bukit Bintang, Phileo Damansara and Pasar Seni MRT Stations.
MRT Corp Defect Liability Period Elevated Construction General Manager Encik Kamarul Baharim Yusoff, MRT Corp Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations General Manager Mr Leong Shen-Li, MRT Corp Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line Planning and Design Assistant General Manager Encik Muhd Fadzil Abd Hadi and MRT Corp SSP Line Underground Station Senior Project Manager II Mr Alexander Magistrado were on hand to assist during this inspection.
During this inspection, judges from DBKL examined, among others, the special ramps for individuals on wheelchairs and the special parking bays located near the entrance of stations.
At the awards ceremony, Fadzil was present to receive the award on behalf of MRT Corp.
The award was presented by Minister of Federal Territories Tuan Haji Khalid Abd Samad.
