Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), through its subsidiary Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd (MRTS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Johor Centre for Construction Development (JCCD) on 2 December 2020, for the participation of Bumiputera contractors in the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) Project between Johor Bahru and Singapore.
Signing for JCCD was Chief Executive Tuan Haji Mohd Ekmaluddin Bin Dato’ Ishak and Technical Director Encik Azman Bin Jaafar while MRTS Director Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim and RTS Link Project Director Ir Zulkifli Mohamed signed on behalf of MRTS.
Mohd Zarif is also Chief Executive Officer of MRT Corp, the parent company of MRTS. MRTS is the Malaysian infrastructure company (InfraCo) for the RTS Link Project.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Johor Menteri Besar YAB Datuk Haji Hasni Bin Haji Mohammad, Johor State Secretary YB Dato’ Haji Azmi Bin Rohani and Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure Committee Chairman YB Tuan Haji Mohd Solihan Bin Badri.
The signing ceremony was done virtually with the JCCD signatories in Kota Iskandar, Iskandar Puteri, Johor, while the MRTS signatories were in Kuala Lumpur. The witnesses were also present at Kota Iskandar.
MRT Corp’s Bumiputera Participation Strategy for the RTS Link Project will see 40% of the project’s infrastructure cost valued at RM800 million being “carved out” and awarded to Bumiputera contractors from Grade G1 to G7. Participation is open for Johor-registered Grade G1 to G6 contractors while G7 contractors nationwide will be eligible to participate.
