Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) held the first balloting session to select Bumiputera contractors to be awarded contracts for the construction of MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line on 8 June 2017.
Four contracts with a total value of RM682,567 were awarded during the session. The four were chosen from a total 103 bumiputera contractors from Grades G1 and G2 which were eligible for balloting.
The grades are determined by the Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB). Grade G1 contractors are eligible for work packages up to the value of RM200,000 and those in Grade G2 are eligible for work packages between RM200,001 and RM500,000.
Of the four contracts awarded, two were for the elevated section while the other two were for the underground section.
The balloting was carried out by the President of the Malay Contractors Association of Malaysia Dato’ Haji Mokhtar Samad, Secretary of the Contractor and Entrepreneur Development Division of the Works Ministry Encik Zureen Zubir, Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (TERAJU) Encik Wan Sazriz Wan Zaid and MRT Corp Chief Financial Officer Dato’ Hairul Abdul Hamid.
A total of 883 Bumiputera contractors were shortlisted to be awarded contracts for the SSP Line under MRT Corp’s Bumiputera Participation programme.
