The annual Environmental Management Campaign organised by Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) Standard and Compliance Division took a turn to the virtual space this year, with the theme “Renewable Energy and Green Technology”. Held from 11 October 2021 to 9 November 2021, the objective was to explore ways to adopt better processes for a sustainable environment.
Environmental Paper Presentation
The campaign began with an Environmental Paper Presentation Competition, open to all Klang Valley MRT project and RTS Link project personnel, including subcontractors. Themed “Renewable Energy for Railway Infrastructure”, the competition aimed to develop the participants’ ability to enhance efficiency, promote innovation and develop Renewable Energy in working processes, in achieving a sustainable environment.
The competition, which ran from 11 October 2021 till 2 November 2021, saw ten submissions with seven participants being shortlisted to present their paper online on 2 November 2021 to a panel of judges consisted of Puan Rubita Hani Abdul Samad from Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (SEDA Malaysia), Encik Muhammad Zaidy Abu Tamin and Ms Suzy Kubong, both from MRT Corp.
During the presentation, the participants were judged based on their clear objectives; originality and creativity; quality of presentation; and how they responded to questions from the judges. The seven shortlisted participants this year were all from MRT Corp, with the full list as below:

The winners were announced during the Environmental Management Campaign webinar, which took place on 2 November 2021.
Aside from the paper presentation competition, under the campaign, scheduled infographics on Renewable Energy & Green Technology were shared throughout the organisation, with later a trivia test was organised for MRT Corp employees as a follow up to the infographics.
Environmental Management Campaign Webinar
The Environmental Management Campaign for the year 2021 was officially launched on 9 November 2021 online through a webinar via the Zoom platform by MRT Corp Acting Head of Standard and Compliance Division, Encik Azhar Sofah.
The program for the webinar began with the first speaker of the day, Dato’ Dr. Technologist (Ts.) Hj Mohammad Ezanni Mat Salleh from the Department of Environment (DoE), Kuala Lumpur who delivered on the topic, Energy Conservation Systems.
In his presentation, he shared on the various steps that can be taken towards energy conservation systems for electricity. He then further shared on the various concepts and systems for energy conservation that are effective in energy saving.
The next speaker, Sr. Dr. Asmah Alia Mohamad Bohar from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) who was involved with multiple research projects under various Government Agencies and Departments, then presented on the topic “The Path Towards Greening the Malaysian Construction Industry”.
In her presentation, Sr. Dr. Asmah explained on the green policies and initiatives currently being implemented by the Government in the construction industry. She then highlighted on the importance of green practices in construction in order to reduce carbon footprint, pushing Malaysia’s construction industry towards being more environmentally-friendly.
The third and final speaker for the webinar, Ts. Steve Anthony Lojuntin who was the Director of Technical Development and Facilitation at SEDA Malaysia then presented on the topic “Green Building and Sustainable Energy Low Carbon Building”.
He had presented on the zero-energy building concept, fitting methodology and the assessment tools used in Malaysia. He further highlighted on the importance of Low Carbon Building as strategy that supports the use of efficient green technologies in order to mitigate environmental degradation.
The winners for the Environmental Paper Presentation competition were announced during the webinar, with each winner taking home cash prize and certificate, as below:
